Due to the ultra-craptastic economy, arts organizations are having trouble finding funding, and Live Wire is unfortunately no exception. Like all arts organizations, we only make about 50% of our budget on ticket sales. In the past we've looked to grants and sponsorships to fill that gap. But since we lost our biggest sponsor to budget cuts last year, we're now looking to you, our generous and strangely attractive audience for help.

We would be incredibly grateful if you'd click the button below to give a dang*, and then, if you feel so moved, become a part of our Gallery of The Danged below by sending a photo and the reasons you give a dang to dang@livewireradio.org. Examples are below. And thanks so much for giving whatever you can.

*a Dang is any amount between 5 dollars and 5 bagillion dollars.

CURT ELLIS
Peabody Award winning director of King Corn and The Greening of Southie.
"I've never had a welcome like the one I received on Live Wire.  If you can make a farm subsidy documentarian feel like a rock star, you're on to something. Dang me for not sending a check to Live Wire sooner!  You guys rock."

Dang for LW.jpgAPRIL BAER
Reporter/Producer, OPB Radio, 91.5 FM
"If ever there were someone less likely to give a dang, it would have to be me. My job gives me a matinee ticket to every cheeseball marketing campaign, every cause in need of immediate attention and money. But there's something that happens at Live Wire that I find nowhere else. No, not Tyler Hughs' admittedly inimitable rendition of his last testicular exam. I'm talking about the sense of community, the innate sense of fun, and ... well, I suppose the Oregon-ness. It makes me feel less like a big ol' hard boiled egg, and more like a fluffy souffle served with a rollicking bourbon raspberry sauce. Yeah, I gave a dang for Live Wire. And I'd do it again, too!"

OWENphoto.jpgOWEN SOKOLOFF
Co-founder/producer Kate Sokoloff's son, who is still glad that she made Live Wire because he got to meet Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie and The Blazers' Channing Frye.

MICHAELROHD.JPGMICHAEL ROHD

"Live Wire is a dog's best friend because it's silly, it's thoughtful, and it smells good! Portland without Live Wire should not have to be contemplated. It's too depressing to imagine."

JONATHAN.jpgJONATHAN NEWSOME
Live Wire Recording Engineer, Singer of Songs
"when i arrive at 1pm, i'm the first of the livewire crew on site. when i leave around 11pm, all my cohorts are already drinking beer with the guests, and i'm standing alone on a battered and empty stage, neatly winding cables. (strangely, i never have any trouble catching up once i get there.)

i'm the guy who makes sure that what you hear on the radio sounds stunningly good. if i were to charge livewire my normal hourly rate for doing the skilled labor i do, they'd go bankrupt within about 7.5 shows. (seriously, i've done the math.)  however, i give a dang, and during soundcheck, i don't think about the money i'm making; i think about the awesome show that we're gonna give to the people of oregon (and beyond.) i give 100%, so i'm thinking you could give at least like 15% or 20%. after taxes. yes?"
