Episode 249 EncoreBarbara Ehrenreich, Jason Porter, The Minus 5
This episode was originally taped at a live show on April 26, 2014
Author Barbara Ehrenreich tells us about her latest book, Living with a Wild God, Jason Porter tells a story about writing his novel Why Are You So Sad?, and The Minus 5's Scott McCaughey lives up to his reputation of wearing shades on the radio.
One of our most biting, intelligent cultural commentators, Barbara Ehrenreich has been writing books whose ideas became viral before being viral was a thing. She is the author of 20 non-fiction books, including Nickel and Dimed and Bright-Sided: How the Relentless Promotion of Positive Thinking Has Undermined America. Her latest book is Living With a Wild God: A Nonbeliever's Search for the Truth About Everything.
Jason Porter is the author of the novel Why Are You So Sad? Reminiscent of Gary Shteyngart, George Saunders, Douglas Coupland and Jennifer Egan, Porter’s debut is an acutely perceptive and sharply funny meditation on what makes people tick.
The Minus 5
The Minus 5 was created by Scott McCaughey in 1993 as a pop collective, forming a new lineup for each record. The band is planning to release a box set later this year.
