We recently hosted a contest asking folks to post the title of a children's book if it were written by author and past Live Wire guest, Chuck Palahniuk, using the hashtag #palahniukchildrensbook on Twitter. The winner receives a pair of tickets to our sold out season premiere on February 18th at the Alberta Rose Theater.

February 18th guest Ian Karmel came in with two of our absolute favorites based on well-known children's books:

Last week, Portlanders everywhere were shocked and amazed to find our very own AgesandAges included on President Obama's 2012 campaign playlist with their song, "No Nostalgia". Perhaps no one was more surprised than AgesandAges frontman Tim Perry, who posted this on his Facebook profile:

"Not so long ago, I sat on the foot of my bed and started writing this song, called "No Nostalgia." Then AgesandAges came along and we recorded it. I woke up this morning to the news that it's one of 29 songs on President Obama's playlist, according to the Wall Street Journal. Surreal doesn't begin to describe."

AgesandAges was one of our favorite musical guests last year. You, too, can partake in the enjoyment of AgesandAges on Live Wire by downloading Episode 148 and listening to their live performance of "No Nostalgia" below.

You may or may not recognize a few of the other artists on Obama's playlist:

“I Got You” – Wilco

If author Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club, Choke, Damned) were to re-write a popular children's book, what would it be called?  The author of the funniest mash-up will be the lucky winner of a pair of tickets to the February 18th season premiere of Live Wire with Ian Karmel, Blitzen Trapper, Hey Marseilles and more!

TO ENTER: Submit your idea on Twitter using the hashtag #PalahniukChildrensBooks and/or in the comments of this post.

For inspiration, listen to Mr. Palahniuk's Live Wire episode on OPB Saturday Feb 4th at 7pm, download the podcast (Episode 160) or watch a video of his interview.  For a list of Chuck Palahniuk books, click here.

Here are three ideas you cannot use because we already made them up:

Juanita has been creating velvet paintings for over 10 years, focusing her subject matter on icons and objects of American pop culture. Her work has been recognized on several television shows, including the Tonight Show, HBO and OPB’s Oregon Art Beat.

For the Give!Guide, Juanita is thrilled to donate her velvet painting of a cocktail for Live Wire, as she is a huge fan of the show and an active volunteer. She has been around since the beginning and is also the person responsible for the velvet props and sparkly things that you see on stage.

Juanita's Velvet Crying Conan, commisioned by Voodoo Doughnut, was featured in the Museum of Conan Art (COCOMoCA).  Watch the CNN video here.

Live Wire House Poet Scott Poole is donating this Natalie Portman painting THAT HE PAINTED to one lucky winner who donates ANY AMOUNT to Live Wire in the Willamette Week Give!Guide this week (Dec 19-25).

This is what Scott has to say about his painting:

"This is my first attempt at a portrait in oils. It's based on a Vanity Fair photograph of Natalie Portman. I just needed something to paint.  Now I think it's time for Natalie to go off and do some good in the world. I think this is an essential item for those who are a Star Wars and Live Wire fan."
